One of my favorite parts about being in the fabrication industry is being given the opportunity to work on some very interesting projects. When Yoshi Nebril came to me with an itch to build something completely different to rival the insanity that is Project Kaiju 86, his Scion FRS, I absolutely had to take it on.
After some brainstorm sessions, the foundation for Project Kaiju 1.5 is born with a custom piece like nothing else n this world - a completely custom roll cage for a Razor Crazy Cart.

This was such a fun build, but there is still a whole lot to be learned. If you ever wondered how to make something out of nothing, or didn't know how to create a starting point in space, this video covers it all.
One of the best things about creating a piece from a blank slate is the ability to create whatever you want. There are no rules or regulations to follow. However, a common sense approach should be considered when creating such a piece because safety is always a priority. You really don't want a tube running right in the path of the intended driver's head which will knock them out when the take a smasher into a curb from a drift that was taken a bit too wide.
How much does it weigh? Well, that seems to be the number one question along with "How fast is it now?" The answer is about 27 pounds (calculated). The added weight does throw the dynamics of the Crazy Cart off just a little bit, but that translates into some seriously insane drifts!
The safety of the cage is actually quite impressive. While shooting the Intro and Outro scenes, I actually did take a drift too wide and flipped it on it's side when miscalculated a drift. The curb was courteous enough to let me know it was not going to move for me. As a result, I ended up on my side where Yoshi was kind enough to tip me back up and I could keep no drifting. Unfortunately, there is no footage of it since my videographer, Ryan, was prepping for the next shot sequence. It would have definitely made it into the video if I had it.
Fabrication is a serious business, but you can see here that it can be extremely fun! You can use your talents to make virtually anything and really enjoy doing it!

I made sure to snap plenty of pics along the way. This cage was built in only two days in order to meet the deadline of Import Face Off Las Vegas 2015.
I mentioned having a deadline on this build, which was only two days from the day I started on it. It was decided to debut the Crazy Cart Roll Cage at Import Face Off 2015 here in Las Vegas. It was a little strange driving this build into the show area, but the crowd reaction was worth it. Of course, me being as tall as I am made this look more like a clown car, but it was fun never the less.
We made sure to give the build a proper showcase in the show.
Since the deadline was so tight, a couple tubes were omitted before showtime, but not for long. Once the show was over, the final pieces and welding were complete.
Here is the final product.
This build will definitely go down on my list of personal favorites. I had such a blast getting creative on this one. I hope you the viewers have enjoyed it too. Who knows - Maybe you will build your own and the #CrazyCartRollCage revolution can begin!
Purge Blocks actually serve more than one purpose. Do you know what they do?
